When designing classrooms, a very important role is played by the selection of appropriate lighting, which, in addition to energy efficiency, must meet a number of lighting standards.
Light affects people not only visually but also biologically. Lighting in classrooms must ensure comfortable vision without excessive visual fatigue when writing and reading. Incorrectly selected, it can disturb concentration, sleep-wake cycle, and cause visual and nervous system defects. Well-chosen lighting has a positive effect on our well-being, concentration and learning efficiency, and even on our sleep.
Our offer includes a wide selection of luminaires that meet the restrictive standards specified for public buildings, including educational ones, such as the Gvarv school in Norway. This project took into account many factors affecting the comfort of students and teachers - UGR, light intensity, uniformity, color rendering index and color temperature, and what is more - the latest technology imitating daylight was used.
In classrooms and gyms, where the point we are looking at is above eye level (for example a blackboard), luminaires with UGR <19 were used. URG is an indicator that determines the level of glare. Too high the UGR index may cause excessive eye blinking and eye irritation, so the lower the index, the better the light quality. It was assumed that lamps intended for teaching rooms should have a UGR value of ≤ 19.
In addition to standard LED solutions, Gvarv's classrooms also feature lighting fixtures with modern Philips Fortimo LED Strip CES modules - a breakthrough solution in meeting HCL WELL standards (building standard for health and well-being in offices). According to the latest research, light influences our circadian rhythm and our body produces the sleep hormone melatonin. In this field of Human Centric Lighting, Fortimo CES LED modules provide the appropriate light spectrum to help the human body inhibit melatonin formation during the day. This technology is called Cyan Enhanced Static (CES) and is based on the Fortimo LED Strip platform. CES technology helps to achieve the highest possible MDER (Melanopic Daylight Equivalent Ratio) with comfortable light quality.
Advantages of CES:
• Use of a unique configuration of LED chips
• Perfect "admixture" of light with a wavelength of 480nm
• Highest MDER on the market
• Guaranteed photobiological safety
• A luminous efficacy of up to 165 lm / W
• 5-year warranty
• No flickering effect
• 4200K, CRI> 80, R9> 50
• Long-life solution:> 70,000 hours
Due to the comfort of use and energy efficiency, when planning the lighting in the Gvarv building, it was decided to use a lighting control system - DALI, thanks to which users can change the light intensity at any time depending on their needs.
Imperial lighting fixtures installed in the building of this school meet all standards and recommendations for school buildings, and also perfectly harmonize with the Scandinavian interior of the building. Undoubtedly, the technology used here is noteworthy for the comfort of users. We are impressed by both the described project and the latest solutions of the Philips Signify brand and we look forward to the next novelty, about which soon ...
